Abstract

1430886 Complexes of polyene antibiotics LENINGRAD NAUCH - ISSLED INST ANTIBIOTIKOV 1 May 1974 19077/74 Heading C2C Novel N-methyl-d-glucosamine complexes of fungicidal polyene antibiotic-macrolides of formula where R is the residue of a fungicidal polyene antibiotic macrolide, are obtained by reacting an antibiotic macrolide RCOOH with N-methyld-glucosamine in a polar aprotic medium at a temperature within the range of 50‹ to 65‹ C. Suitable fungicidal polyene antibiotic-macrolides are nystatine, pimaricin, amphotericin B, mycoheptine, candidine, levorine, trichomicin and gamicin. Pharmaceutical compositions having fungicidal and protistocidal activity comprise complexes of Formula I above as active ingredient, optionally together with a pharmaceutically acceptable filler, diluent or carrier in forms suitable for administration orally, by inhalation, by installation or as enemae.
