Abstract

1430788 Desks; drawer runners; cabinets MINES & WEST Ltd 2 July 1974 [20 Sept 1973] 44286/73 Headings A4B and A4H [Also in Division F2] A collapsible desk comprises a rectangular top panel, 1, Fig. 2, side panels 2 hinged to the top panel at or adjacent the side edges thereof and a front panel 5 hinged to the top panel at or adjacent the front edge thereof, the desk being collapsed by first pivoting the front panel 5, to a position parallel to the top panel 1 and then pivoting the side panels 2 inwardly to a position parallel to and underlying the top panel 1, the side panels 2 being maintained erect by the side edges of the front panel 5 abutting the inner surfaces of the side panels 2. As shown, the side panels 2 extend above the top panel 1, abutment between the inner surfaces of the side panels and the side edges of the top panel limiting outward movement of the side panels 2. In a modification, the top edges of the side panels abut the lower surface of the top panel. The front panel 5 is held erect by a connecting element comprising a T-section portion 8, Fig. 8, whose upright 8a engages in a slot 9 in the lower edge surface of panel 5 and whose cross bar (8b) overlies this surface, the cross bar having end extensions 10 extending under the lower edge surfaces of the respective side panels 2. The extensions 10 are connected to the panels 2 by threaded feet 13, similar feet 13 being provided at the rear of panels 2. The desk may have drawers 15, Fig. 13, slideable on plastics runners 18 detachably secured to the side panels 2 by dowels 17 engaged in bores 16 and 23 in the panels 2 and runners 18. Each runner 18 receives a drawer flange 22 between a pair of opposed surfaces 20, 21, the lower surface 21 being recessed and receiving captive ball bearings 24. The recess includes stop pins 25 at the ends and intermediate the ends. The stop pins may be integral with the runner. Specifications 1430789 and 1430790 are referred to.
