Abstract

1430382 Induction heating ELECTRICITY COUNCIL 7 May 1973 [23 Feb 1972] 8423/72 Heading H5H A method of inductively melting glass comprises arranging in a vessel containing the glass susceptor elements, of a material chemically unaffected by the glass and having an electrical conductivity higher than the glass, such as to define a closed loop current path, partly through the susceptors and partly through the glass and passing a 50-60 Hz current through a coil surrounding the vessel to induce an electrical heating current in said loop. The susceptors may be of tungsten, stainless steel, tin oxide or graphite. They may be rods or elongate plates suspended or standing in a circular path coaxial with the vessel.
