Abstract
1429818 Testing magnetic storage devices VYCHISLITEL TSENTR SIBIR OTDELENIA AKAD NAUK SSSR 3 Dec 1973 [11 Dec 1972] 55878/73 Heading H3B [Also in Division G1] Teroidal cores 1 are tested by threading the cores on conductor 5 passing through a testing station 2, feeding the cores individually and in turn to station 2, passing a needle conductor 11 through the core thereat, testing the performance of the core and crushing the core at the station 2 if its performance is unsatisfactory. When a driving member 15 is rotated, slotted crank-plate 13 co-operates with pin 14 on member 15 to retract needle 11 upwards away from station 2 and then 14 engages with a tooth of Geneva wheel 16 to rotate shaft 3 so that the lowermost core 1 on conductor 5 engages in socket 4 and is carried to station 2. Further rotation of member 15 causes pin 14 to disengage from wheel 16 and cause crank-plate 13 to move downwards so that needle 11 moves downwards to thread the core and make contact with terminal 18. A train of current pulses is then fed from tester 8 to either conductor 5 via leads 8<SP>1</SP> or to needle 11 via leads 17<SP>1</SP> and the current induced in the other conductor due to switching of the core is monitored in sorting unit 9. An unsatisfactory signal causes unit 9 to energize crusher unit 10 to destroy the core. A satisfactory core passes down conductor 5 at the next movement of shaft 3.
