Abstract

1429611 Stamping MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK 8 Jan 1974 00915/74 Heading B3Q Steel plates for ships' hulls are given a compound curvature between opposed groups of punches each comprising at least three rows of punches the spacing between which rows is adjustable and the extension of the punches of one of the groups from its support is pro-set to define the curvature. All the punches may be pre-set by screw adjustment, or those of only one group, the punches of the other group being driven hydraulically to bend the plate against the pre-set punches. As shown, Fig. 1, the plate 1 is fed in steps to and discharged from the press by roller tables 10. Three rows of punches are mounted on each of the upper and lower members 2, 4 which are keyed 33 to uprights 3. The rows of punches are in boxes, the central boxes for the middle rows preferably being fixed and the outer boxes adjustable hydraulically or by screws 30, Fig. 6, and gearboxes on guides 29 on the members 2, 4. The top punches 22, Fig. 5, have threaded stems 21 and are pro-set by motors 25. The lower punches 24 are moved hydraulically to press the plate against the top punches. The extension of the top punches and the spacing between rows of punches may be adjusted for each feed step. The end of each punch is adjustable on a spherical seating, Fig. 2 (not shown). A computer 12 for establishing the curvature and a control panel 13 are provided.
