Abstract

1,255,283. Roller-straighteners. GULFWESTERN INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS CO. 8 Jan., 1970 [28 Jan., 1969], No. 1016/70. Heading B3M. A roll machine, such as a cross-roll straightener, incorporates a roll which is biased towards a workpiece by a number of dish springs, the springs yielding under an excessive load to allow the roll to accommodate an oversize workpiece without damage. The machine may have three pairs of skewed rolls 16 and 18 between which a rod or bar is straightened, the upper roll 16 being vertically adjustable by handles F. Each upper roll is mounted in a yoke 38 fixed to a support 46, the support being movable in a fixed housing B by a threaded shaft 52 associated with a handle F. The shaft co-operates with a nut 58 which is coupled to the support by keys 76 and a cover plate 70. The dish springs 90 are located between the nut 58 and support, and are precompressed so that they are unaffected by normal working loads. The springs are compressed, however, when the roll is forced upwardly by an excessive load.
