Abstract

1429338 Automatic current control RANK ORGANISATION Ltd 9 May 1974 [17 May 1973] 23602/73 Heading G3R [Also in Divsion H2] A circuit for maintaining a constant current through a discharge lamp L comprises a transistor T and an operational amplifier A. The lamp is supplied with a D.C. voltage VR and a potentiometer P, connected to a squarewave generator G, sets the value of the current flowing through the lamp. If the current through the lamp tends to change due to changes in the lamp temperture or in the value of the voltage VR, the voltage VI across a resistor R also changes. The output of the amplifier A therefore changes to adjust the conduction of the transistor T so that the lamp current remains constant. A light emitting diode LED visibly indicates the lamp current.
