Abstract

The voltage regulator has an amplifier (4) receiving the battery voltage and a reference voltage (UK) which is output coupled to a power transistor (5) controlling the current through the energising winding (2) of the alternator. A failure indicator with a signal lamp (7) is connected across at least one phase of the alternator. An auxiliary transistor circuit (8,12) is connected between the amplifier (4) and the power transistor (5), which ensures that a min. current, set by a resistor (18) across the power transistor (5), always flows through the alternator energising winding (2) independent of the ratio between the battery voltage (UB) and the reference voltage (Ur), to ensure that the failure signal lamp (7) can operate.
