Abstract

1429275 Spray producers; coating apparatus FEHR & REIST AG 23 May 1973 [23 May 1972] 24728/73 Headings B2F and B2L [Also in Divisions B8 and Fl] Apparatus for the automatic formation of packages 6 of printed products from a stream of products 5 conveyed in an imbricated stream on a conveyor 1 includes a nozzle 7 for directing a spray of liquid bonding agent into the products to stabilize the package formed, the nozzle being fed from a container 9 of liquid agent subjected to air pressure which is varied in accordance with the speed of the conveyor. As shown an electrically controlled valve 12 is interposed between a constant pressure source line 14 and the container line 16. The valve 12 is connected by a lead 19 to a generator 17 driven by the conveyor roller 2 whereby varying speeds of the conveyor result in varying electric signals being applied to the valve 12 which in turn varies the pressure in the line 16 so that the quantity of liquid supplied to the nozzle 7 connected to the container 9 varies in accordance with speed of the conveyor. As described the conveyor carries newspapers which are to be stacked on a further conveyor 3 and at least the upper newspapers are sprayed with adhesive from the nozzle 7 in order to stabilise the stack. The nozzle 7 includes an eleotrically actuated valve 22, Fig. 2a, which is controlled by means sensing the presence of newspapers on the conveyor 1 and includes an annular air jet 32 fed from the line 14 via a reducing valve 34 and also includes elongated shaping air nozzles 35 to flatten the spray.
