Abstract

1429258 Semi-conductor switching circuits; CUTLER-HAMMER EUROPA Ltd 10 Oct 1973 [10 Oct 1972] 47379/73 Heading H3T [Also in Division H2] Semi-conductor switches Q1, Q2, Q3 continue to supply current to a load 10 after opening of the switch S for a time determined by a capacitor C3. When switch S is closed, Q5 and Q6 charge C3 to a voltage determined by Q7 and R14, R15. This holds off Q8 so that Q9, Q10 can energize a relay winding CR1 whose contact CR2 turns on the triac Q1 and the Darlington pair Q2, Q3. The load 10 now receives A.C. from L1 via D1 and D2, or else D.C. from L1 (if it is a D.C. source) via D1, the impedance of D1 being much lower than the Q2, Q3 path. When switch S is opened, Q6, Q7 go off and C3 discharges through R12 and P at a rate determined by P. After a time, Q8 conducts turning off Q9, Q10 and de-energizing the relay CR. Thus Q1, Q2, Q3, which carried the load current direct from the supply terminal L1 after opening of S, eventually turn off. While the relay is energized an L.E.D. is illuminated; while the timing operation is in progress it flashes on and off due to relaxation oscillation of a PUT Q11 with C5, the latter having been shorted out previously by Q12. Transient suppression components include a voltage sensitive register ZNR1, capacitors C1, C4 and resistor R4.
