Abstract

1,120,560. Transistor switching circuits. ARROW ELECTRIC SWITCHES Ltd. 7 April, 1967 [3 May, 1966], No. 16069/67. Heading H3T. A time delay circuit in which a capacitor 25 is chargeable to a threshold voltage through an adjustable resistor 34, 35 from a D.C. supply 20, 21, switched at 19, which voltage when attained by capacitor 25 is utilized for a triggering operation, includes an auxiliary discharge path for capacitor 25, including a diode 36 and a bias supply 37, 38 to reverse bias the diode and hence block the discharge path, the bias supply being inoperative when D.C. supply 20, 21 is interrupted at 19, thus unblocking the discharge path to allow the capacitor to discharge. When capacitor 25 reaches the threshold voltage at an adjustable time after the closure of switch 19, unijunction transistor 42 breaks down, causing SCR 28 to conduct and energize relay 32, the relay remaining energized until switch 19 is opened. Should switch 19 be opened before the threshold voltage is attained, the bias supply is removed from diode 36, thus completing the auxiliary discharge path to discharge capacitor 25. Zener diode 37 may be replaced by a resistor connected to the junction of Zener 47 and resistor 33 (Fig. 2, not shown).
