1428215 Upholstery R U LIGHT 18 May 1973 [13 Nov 1972] 23903/73 Addition to 1295129 Heading A4M A device for supporting the users back, e.g. in chairs or beds, comprises a pad having longitudinally extending rigid members 12....15 enclosed in flexible material and spaced to provide a central flexible part for receiving the users spine The members 12.... 15 may be disposed in moulded resilient material 11, e.g. rubber or plastics, and they may be of wood, plywood, plastics, or metal and may be rectangular, laminated, tubular or corrugated. One side of the device may be padded and the other unpadded. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the members 12 .... 15 are inter-connected by sheet material secured by adhesive. The device may include an enclosing cover. In a third embodiment Fig. 5 (not shown), the members 13, 14 are replaced by tubes inter-connected by a central web providing the central flexible part. In a fourth embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), two rigid corrugated metal members are provided. When the device is folded for carrying it may be fastened in this position by straps, snap buttons or, zippers.
