Abstract
1427866 Valves NUOVO PIGNONE SpA 22 Feb 1974 [23 Feb 1973] 8247/74 Heading F2V In a checkvalve having a pivoted closure member, shock absorbing means are provided for the opening movement of the closure member. The means comprise an elongate member 33 having a head 34 which engages the back of an arm 28 on which disc-like closure member 30 is pivoted, reciprocating in an aperture 32 in the valve housing and loaded by a spring 40 which absorbs the energy of impact of the arm on the head 34. The elongate member acts through the centre of percussion or the centre of gravity of the closure member. A nut 36 carried on the elongate member engages the spring and is adjustable to vary the shock absorbing effect. The outer end of the elongate member slides in a sleeve 38 mounted in a cap 37 bolted to the outside of the valve housing. The closure member comprises a right cylindrical disc portion backed by a truncated conical portion carrying a boss (29), Fig. 3 (not shown), located within an annular projection (47) on the pivot arm. The boss and the annular projection each have grooves in which a ring of ball bearings are placed and a single ball bearing is located between the end of the boss and the inner end of the annular projection on the arm, each member having a conical depression. The closure member is prevented from rotating about the arm by a pin (43) carried by the closure member which enters an aperture (49) in the arm. Servomotors 50 may be mounted on the outside of the valve housing, Figs. 4, 5 and 6 (not shown), on top of or/and on the side of the housing to effect closing of the valve. When mounted on the side a ram (51) engages a lever (52) attached to the pivot of the closure member and a lever-mounted counterweight (53) is attached to the arm. When mounted on top of the housing the ram enters the valve housing and contacts the valve pivot arm directly.
