Abstract
1427143 Microscope specimens S A HODSON and J MARSHALL 24 May 1973 [1 June 1972] 25634/72 Heading G2J [Also in Division C7] A transfer container for transferring a freezedried specimen from one apparatus (e.g. an ultramicrotome) to another (e.g. an evacuable bell jar or electron microscope) comprises a body 12 adapted to accommodate the specimen e.g. on plate 21; a valve 32 for evacuating the container and an aperture closable by lid 24 for inserting and removing the specimen so as to maintain a vacuum in the container during transfer. In use, the interior of the container is cooled and the container is connected to the first apparatus. The specimen is inserted and the container is evacuated, sealed and transferred to the second apparatus which is itself evacuated before the lid 24 is removed.
