Abstract

1427130 Worm metering apparatus FR HESSER MASCHINENFABRIK AG 19 Dec 1974 [20 Dec 1973] 54794/74 Addition to 1338874 Heading B8A Metering apparatus comprises a worm 6 rotatable in a vertical filling tube 3 within a hollow shaping mandrel 12 of a tubular bag forming machine (not shown) and serves to dispense a metered amount of flowable commodity into each bag. A conical closure member 4 is attached to the lower end 5 of the worm 6 and cooperates with a sleeve 2 moved vertically by a tube 17 to prevent after-trickling of commodity being metered. The tube 17 may be made of metal, resilient plastics material or fabric impregnated with plastics material or rubber. The sleeve 2 may be made of metal or plastics material and may be integral with the tube 17 and of the same material. If the member 17 is made of resilient material and engages the member 4 while the latter is still rotating, the tube 17 is twisted about its longitudinal axis causing a temporary reduction in length of the tube 17, lessening the pressure on the member 4 to reduce wear.
