Abstract
1,220,349. Moulding foamed pipe covers. BIBBY CHEMICALS Ltd., and DUFAY BITUMASTIC Ltd. 30 Aug., 1968 [14 Sept., 1967], No. 41878/67. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F2] A length of piping P is jacketed in foam plastics material by moulding in cylindrical cage 10 lined with paper or plastics sheet 20, the foam material being supplied by a retractable pipe 21 which is gradually withdrawn as the mould is filled up from one end to the other. In the form shown the cage is longitudinally split to hinge at 15 and is releasably fastened at 16, but more sections may be employed (Fig. 3, not shown). The pipe is located by the end-covers 13, 14. Preferably the mould is inclined to facilitate filling. The foam may be polyurethane. The device shown in Fig. 4 incorporates telescopically interfitting tubular cages 23, 23a so that various lengths of piping may be accommodated. Foam tube 21 is connected to a dispensing machine 31. The ends of the insulation are tapered to facilitate the joining of the pipes (Figs. 6-8, not shown) and the filling in of the insulation and its wrapping.
