Abstract

1426840 Laminated fabric K M BERG 13 Aug 1973 [11 Aug 1972] 38177/73 Heading B5N A fabric is given a three-dimensional patterning by applying thereto a plastics film having a pattern of openings or slits therein and subjecting the fabric and applied film to heat and pressure thereby to bond them together and to cause the film to shrink thus imparting an uneven surface to the fabric/film laminate. The film may be polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene/P.V.C. mixture, or some other plastics having a surface layer of polyethylene, and may be provided with the openings by punching or slitting, the slits extending into openings when the film shrinks. Bonding may be effected in a press at c. 180‹ C. under a pressure of 0À03- 4À0 kg/cm.<SP>2</SP> for 10 sec. to 5 min., the base of the press being of an elastic material to allow bulges to be formed in the laminate. When the upper press surface is of metal, siliconized paper or P.T.F.E. or regenerated cellulose film may be inserted between the press surface and plastics film.
