Abstract

1426800 Flare stacks JOHN ZINK CO 14 Sept 1973 43298/73 Heading F4T A smokeless flare comprises a flare stack within which a gas stream is conducted to the outlet tip for burning thereabove, and means adjacent said outlet tip for directing, into the flame of said burning gas stream, liquid water particles of size less than 200 microns. A plurality of water atomizers 10 are located around and/or within the outlet tip of the stack, each atomizer comprising a pipe 32 feeding water to a plenum 30 around the outlet end portion of a pipe 20 to which part of the gas to be flared is supplied, the gas issuing from an orifice 28 at substantially sonic velocity to atomize the water, liquid water droplets of predominantly around 10 microns diameter issuing from an outlet 24 into regions of the flame whereat the gas is not completely burnt.
