Abstract
142,639. Bray, W. April 15, 1919. Blind persons, communicating with.-Means for obtaining representations on an enlarged scale of the configuration of small surfaces, such as embossed characters for the blind and stereotype matter, comprises a feeler device consisting of a pyramidal group of needles a individually displaceable to close electric contacts f, j, and a reading device consisting of a set of solenoids and associated studs which can be read by touch. The feeler device is contained in a casing m, the points of the needles normally projecting into alinement in a plane, under the action of springs k on the contact levers f. The contacts are grouped at different levels on platforms b - - e. The needles are guided at the upper end by perforations in the platforms, and at the lower end by a perforated plate n or a piece of gauze, and are retained by stops h on their upper ends. The contacts may be in the circuits of the solenoids, or relays may be introduced.
