Abstract

1426291 Optical arrangement for beam comparison HASLER A G 2 Feb 1973 [3 Feb 1972] 5361/73 Heading G2J [Also in Division H4] An optical arrangement for beam comparison includes a double prism 2 which comprises two prisms 3, 4 in contact on a semi-transmissive interface 5 and a light source 23 to disposed relative to the double prism that a beam from the source is split into two beams parallel to the interface and spaced apart by a distance which may be adjusted by altering the position of the light source relative to the prism. On exit from the prism the beams are passed through an electrooptical modifying unit 8 before being recombined and passed to a detector 24 of the prism is such that the angle of the incident light corresponds to Brewster's angle the arrangement acts as a polarizer. The arrangement may be used for absorption or scatter measurement by alternately interrupting the beams 6 and 7 or 10 and 11 by a perforated disc. The arrangement may be used to detect inhomogeneities in a plane parallel transparent plate which is introduced into the modifying unit 8 at right angles to the direction of the beam.
