Abstract
1426069 Unloading vehicles T TOYOOKA 13 Dec 1973 57866/73 Headings B8E and B8Q [Also in Division B7] A vehicle has a chassis 7 which is tippable from the transport position, Fig. 1, to an unloading tipped position, Fig. 3. The chassis 7 has a suspension spring 3 normally secured to the rear axle housing 2 as by a pin actuated by an electromagnetic device or air cylinder but connected with a pivotal bracket 4 by a supporting beam 5. To tip the chassis the securing pins are released and the front wheels are braked so that upon driving the rear wheels 6 by the telescopic drive shaft 1 the axle housings 2 slides along the beams 5 pivoting the bracket 4. In the Fig. 3 position the beams 5 bow to lower the end of the chassis to facilitate unloading the cross-section of the beams 5 being such as to allow this bowing but to resist sideways bending which could allow the axles to become misaligned. In the embodiment of Fig. 5, a chain 8 secured at its ends to the axle housing 2 through pulley 9-12 drives, when the housing slides, a dog 14 to push a container 15 off the chassis. The embodiment of Fig. 8 has a dump body 19 which is arranged to be tipped by straightening linkwork 18 as the axle housing 2 slides and pulls on a chain or wire 16. In this embodiment the beams 5 are of a section designed not to bow but to support the chassis horizontal at all positions of the housing 2. In some embodiments the chassis is in two hinged parts which can be unlocked to allow the rear end to drop.
