Abstract

1425930 Relief printing plate NATIONAL PRINTING PLATE CO 16 July 1973 [13 Dec 1972] 57524/72 Heading G2M A relief printing plate is prepared by (1) forming a copy of the printing image required, (2) contact exposing a first layer of light-sensitive emulsion using said copy so that the unmasked areas are hardened, (3) bonding a second layer of the emulsion on to the first layer, (4) contact exposing the second layer using the copy (in register with first exposed image), (5) removing the masked areas of the emulsion layers, (6) contacting the emulsion layers with a pliable plate-forming material, (7) curing the material into a selfsupporting state and (8) separating the emulsion layers and the cured material which constitutes the printing plate. In an alternative process a second copy of the image, larger than the first is produced in step (1) and used instead of the first copy in step (4). In both processes, the masked areas of the first layer may be removed before the second layer is applied or the masked areas of both layers may be removed together. In order to get thicker image further emulsion layers and contact exposure steps are used, in the alternative process the image copies have larger images in these additional steps.
