Abstract

1425888 Load handling pallet STAPLA AB 7 June 1973 27298/73 Heading B8H A low weight pallet comprises a load carrying member 11 attached to a frame comprising a plurality of spaced support members 14 to which the load carrying member is attached and a plurality of base members 13 which are spaced from but extend in a plane parallel to the support members, the load carrying member, support members and base members each being made from a material comprising two layers 16 and 17, 19 and 20 between which is sandwiched a reinforcing layer of substantially parallel spaced ribs 18, 21, the support members being arranged so that their ribs extend in a direction transverse of the direction of the ribs of the load carrying member whereas the base members are arranged so that their ribs extend in generally the same direction as those of the load carrying member. The layers of the support, load carrying and base members may be of corrugated paper board, plastics, fabric or a combination of paper, fabric and or plastics and the ribs may be formed of wood or plastics material. In the embodiment shown, the support members are connected to and spaced from the underlying base members by means of short inclined spacers, e.g. of wood, the spacers being inclined relative to the outer periphery of the pallet. In an alternative embodiment (not shown), the carrying member 11 has ribs 18 of substantially the same width as and positioned above the base members 13, the lower layer 17 of the load carrying member 11 optionally extending beyond the peripheral limits of the upper layer 16 to provide a peripheral flange on the pallet, the load carrying member with such an arrangement being optionally provided with ventilation holes.
