Abstract

1425590 Gas-generator FRANCE ARMED FORCES MINISTER OF 22 Nov 1973 [23 Nov 1972] 54362/73 Heading B1X A gas-generating device intended for use inside a vessel comprises a fluid-tight and deformable envelope containing either a liquid capable of reaction with another liquid to produce a gas, or an inert liquid plus a solid capable of reaction with another liquid to produce a gas, and an explosive charge with means for remotely controlled detonation to split open the envelope and place the contents in contact with a said other liquid. The contents of the envelope may be calcium or lithium hydride plus a mineral oil, the other liquid being water with which the hydride can react to produce hydrogen. The device may be used for emptying the ballast tanks of submarines, or for filling buoys or balloons with gas.
