Abstract

1425580 Transfer printing CIBA-GEIGY AG 21 Dec 1972 [24 Dec 1971] 59183/72 Headings D1B and D1P [Also in Division A5] Webs of organic material are printed by a continuous dry transfer-printing process the process comprising (a) applying to a continuous inert carrier a preparation containing at least one textile treating compound capable of transferring, in the vapour state, at atmospheric pressure at a temperature of at least 130‹C to the organic material, (b) subsequently bringing the treated side of the continuous inert carrier into contact with the side of the web to be printed and transporting the carrier and web in such a manner that they move along synchronously one against the other, (c) subjecting the carrier and web to a heat treatment at a temperature of at least 130‹C so as to transfer the textile treating compound to the web, (d) subsequently removing the thus printed web from the continuous inert carrier, (e) finally cleansing the continuous inert carrier and (f) repeating operations (a) to (e). The inert carrier may be treated in operation (a) with a bonding agent stable below 250‹C and water and/or organic solvent, the carrier being dried before being contacted with the web, the preferred inert carrier being stainless steel, aluminium and paper. Sublimable disperse dyes, optical brighteners, and textile finishing e.g. antistatic agents may be applied to cellulose ester, polyamide, polyester or mixtures thereof.
