1425569 Photographic anti-halation layers AGFA-GEVAERT 31 May 1973 [22 June 1972] 29387/72 Addition to 1241692 Heading G2C Photographic silver halide materials contain on the side of the support opposite to the emulsion layer or layers an anti-halation layer having a waterinsoluble, alkali-soluble polymeric binder and an anti-halation dye containing at least one carboxyalkyl group but having no sulpho group in acid or salt form, the dye having the general Formula:- where R 1 is allyl, cycloalkyl or substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or aryl, R2 is H or has one of the values given for R 1 , each of L 1 , L 2 and L 3 is methine or substituted methine, Ar is arylene which may be substituted, p is I or 2 and Y is -OH, alkoxy, alkylthio, amino or substituted amino. Polymeric binders include nitrated CO (styrene/ maleic acid), CO (styrene/acrylic acid), CO (methyl acrylate/acrylic acid), CO (vinyl acetate/crotonic acid and CO (acrylic or methacrylic acid/ethyl or n-butyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate. Other polymers are listed. Polymethylene hydroxybenzoic acid may be present in the binder to improve subbing properties or a cellulose diacetate and CO (styrene/maleic acid) intermediate layer or a CO (vinylidene chloride/vinyl chloride/n-butyl acrylate/ itaconic acid) subbing layer may be used.
