Abstract

1424515 Photographic anti-halation layers AGFA-GEVAERT 31 May 1973 [ 22 June 1972] 29385/72 Addition to 1265485 Heading G2C Photographic silver halide materials contain an anti-halation layer having a water-insoluble, alkalisoluble polymeric binder and an anti-halation dye having neither a sulpho nor carboxyl group in acid or salt form and being of the general Formula:- where A is an alkylene group, the chain of which may be interrupted by hetero atoms, X is alkoxycarbonyl having up to 5 carbon atoms in the alkoxy group, hydroxyl, cyano, halogen, or SO 2 R where R is alkyl or aryl either of which may be substituted, R 1 is H, allyl, cycloalkyl or substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or aryl, M is a cation, each of L 1 , L 2 and L 3 is methine or substituted methine and p is 1, 2 or 3. Polymeric binders include co (styrene/acrylic acid), co (styrene/ maleic acid), co (acrylic or methacrylic acid/ ethyl or n-butyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate) and co (vinyl acetate/crotonic acid). Other polymers are listed. Polymethylene hydroxybenzoic acid may be present in the binder to improve subbing properties or a cellulose diacetate intermediate layer or a co (vinylidene chloride/vinyl chloride/n-butyl acrylate/itaconic acid) subbing layer may be used.
