Abstract
1425246 Burning liquid fuel INSTITUT VYSOKIKH TEMPERATUR AKADEMII NAUK SSR 5 June 1973 26813/73 Heading F4B Sulphur bearing liquid fuels forming ash are partially burnt at 1 at a temperature of 400- 900‹ C. and the resultant gas/liquid mixture is cooled at 2. The liquid is removed at 3 and the gases are cleaned to remove ash and corrosion producing substances at 8 and 9. The gas is then heated in a heat-exchanger 7 and fed to a second stage combustion chamber 10 and then to a steam boiler 12 from which steam drives a turbine 14 connected to a generator 15. Part of the ash-bearing liquid fuel from the apparatus 3 is fed to the first stage combustion chamber 1 and part is delivered at D for de-ashing. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), there are a plurality of circuits as shown in Fig. 2 together with a modified circuit in which there is a reactor which is fed with the liquid products of combustion from all of the circuits and in which there is incomplete combustion, at a temperature of 1300‹ C. so that the fuel is converted into gas from which the ash can be trapped for subsequent removal of valuable elements such as vanadium, nickel and germanium in a gasifier.
