Abstract

1425213 Heat-treating titanium alloy forgings UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP 18 April 1973 [18 May 1972] 18687/73 Heading C7A The fatigue strength of large Ti-6 Al-4V forgings is improved by solution treatment above the betatransus in the range 1825-2025‹F followed by water-quenching and averaging at 1250-1350‹F, preferred times being 1-2 hours and at least 3 hours respectively. The forging may initially be in the slightly alpha-beta worked condition. The forgings may be used for helicopter components, particularly the main rotor hub.
