Abstract
1,130,839. Improving physical properties. S. V. OCHAGOV. 29 June, 1967, No. 30103/67. Heading B3V. A method of work-hardening and improving the fatigue-life of helicopter rotor-spars, propeller blades, aircraft panels &c. comprises vibrating, in the vertical plane, the part 1 to be hardened with an acceleration exceeding that of gravity and plastically deforming the surface of the part with balls 3 which are thrown up by the vibrating surface. The part is worked in an enclosed chamber or space 2; the length of an inner and an outer surface being hardened simultaneously as the part is agitated, at a frequency corresponding to its natural frequency, by a vibrator 8. Elastic members 6, 7 support the chamber 2.
