Abstract

1424794 Making tined tool heads SPEAR & JACKSON (TOOLS) Ltd 27 March 1973 [7 Jan 1972] 899/72 Heading B3A A method of making a one-piece tool head having tines 34 comprises stamping or pressing the tines from a generally rectangular blank of thickness equal to that thickness required of the tines with gap or gaps 36a, Fig. 6, at or near the longitudinal axis of the blank being enlarged at the root portions 42 of the tines. The width w of the gaps 36 formed between adjacent pairs of tines does not greatly exceed the width W of each tine. The gap 36a is enlarged into a bulbous shape 40 to facilitate the shaping and trimming of the tines. End 44 of the blank is rolled into a socket 44a, Fig. 7, to receive a handle. Alternatively, it may be forged into a tang. The head may be used for a garden fork or rake, or a garden hand cultivator.
