Abstract

1432141 Tined garden tools SPEAR & JACKSON (TOOLS) Ltd 30 April 1973 [22 Feb 1972] 8087/72 Heading B3A A method of making a tined tool head for a garden tool comprises providing a flat metal bar 10 of a thickness corresponding to the desired tine thickness with one or more notches 14, 16 at its central portion, bending the bar to a U- shape and blanking or cutting the bar to produce tines 26, 28 on each side of the central portion, the steps of bending and blanking or cutting being carried out in any sequence. A tang 22 for the tool may be formed from metal 20, 34 lying between the notches by forging, or a separatelymade tang may be welded into the notched central portion. Where two notches are formed in the bar about a rectangular block 30, the latter may be forged into a cylindrical tang.
