987,729. Mineral-mining picks. SINTALOY PRODUCTS Ltd. March 19, 1964 [Jan. 4, 1963], No. 453/63. Heading E1F. [Also in Division B3] The configuration of a carbide tip-containing recess of a mineral-mining cutter pick or other tool and/or cooling or quenching of the tool after the tip 5 has been brazed into the recess is such that the braze metal 11 at the inner face 12 of the recess is compressively counter-stressed across the thickness of the braze metal inwardly from the emergence of the metal at the front face 7 of the body in order to reduce failure of the brazing in use of the pick or tool. A number of preferred constructions are described.
