The thread may be returned to the rotor by a selectively engageable reverse gear train which is engaged by electromagnetic clutches. Alternatively, the thread can be drawn from or returned to the rotor by a roller (40) which is selectively engageable with two rollers, one rotating about 6 times faster than the other, Fig. 3 not shown.
