Abstract

1423959 System for cathodic protection RHEEM INTERNATIONAL Inc 7 Nov 1974 [21 March 1974] 48214/74 Heading C7E A corrosion prevention system comprises a non-sacrificial anode 12 in an electrically conductive fluid 11 in contact with corrodible metal 10 which forms the cathode (e.g. a water tank), and an electrical bridge system as shown having a semi-conductor 24 connected to 12, a resistor 26, and a constant voltage source (e.g. the conductor between resistors 28 and 30, as shown). The semiconductor may be a PNP transistor, and there may be a light-emitting diode between either the DC source and the bridge Fig. 5 (not shown) or the transistor and the anode Fig. 6, (not shown) to monitor operation of the system. Resistor 28 may be replaced by a Zener diode, to hold the voltage level of the base of the transistor constant. The system delivers constant current through the anode, regardless of variations in the resistivity of the anode-liquid-cathode system.
