Abstract

1299989 Anode assembly for cathodic protection ENGELHARD MINERALS & CHEMICALS CORP 3 Dec 1970 [4 Dec 1969] 57549/70 Heading C7E An anode assembly for the cathodic protection of the submerged spaced supporting legs for example of an off-shore platform comprises a cable with an electrical conductor running alongside, a preferably elongated portion of the cable and conductor being embedded in insulating material, and anode means mounted on the external surface of the insulating material being electrically connected to the conductor through the insulating material. As shown, Fig. 2, a cable 9 and conductor 12 are held together by clamps 15 and encased in insulating materials 31. The clamps 15 are electrically connected to conductor 12 by the latter having its insulating covering removed for the lengths of the clamps and conducting nipples are provided projecting from the clamps to which the anode wires 13, 14 are connected by bolts 37. Insulating rings 39, 40 hold the anode wires in place. Hooks 35, 36 are provided at the ends of the cable for securing the same to submerged legs of an off-shore platform, Fig.1 (not shown). The anode wires are located within the central third of the length of the cable. The anode wires may comprise titanium, niobium or tantalum with platinum sleeves 38.
