Abstract

1421731 Haymakers TEXAS INDUSTRIES INC 1 Dec 1972 55729/72 Heading A1F A haymaker comprises horizontally rotatable rotary rake heads each of which has radially extending spokes 19 which support at least one tine group 21 at their upwardly or downwardly bent outer ends 30. Each tine group is mounted so as to be moved in common between working and non-working positions via the intermediary of a pin and slot lost motion coupling on the rake head, pivotal linkages and the centrifugal forces induced by rake head rotation. The tines are further mounted such that they can be: (i) Individually removable from the spokes (ii) Individually adjustable between different working positions with respect to the other members of the group (iii) Adjustable as a group between different working positions about an axis which is non-tangential (with respect to the circle described by the rake head) (iii) Deflectable, as a group, about the non-tangential axis to avoid obstruction damage. Fig. 3 shows tines 31, 32 of group 21 separately pivoted to spoke end 30 and bolt 46. An arm 24 is pivoted to the bolt 46 and the rake head whereby the effect of the lost motion coupling can be transmitted. In Figs. 5-6 (not shown) the tines are individually mounted on the spoke end 30 via apertured flanges which allow individual adjustment of each tine. The spoke end 30 is inclined forwardly and the tines rearwardly and downwardly. In Fig. 7, the flanges 53, 54 of Figs. 5, 6 are connected to a sleeve 72 which allow tine group adjustment via pivoted arm 79. In Fig. 8 (not shown) 'the sleeve of Fig. 7 is in two castellated, adjustable parts which are spring urged together. In Fig. 9 the tines are individually mounted on a support 84 whose upper surface 87 is spring urged against the lower surface 88 of a cross member of a fork 82 which is pivoted directly to spoke 19 and indirectly to arm 24 (of Fig. 3). The fork arms are pivoted to a pin 83 which receives a spring 89 that urges the surfaces 87, 88 together. When an obstruction is encountered the support 84 is pivoted about the pin 83 which has the non-tangential axis. The spring can be omitted if the working centrifugal forces are sufficient to urge the surfaces together.
