Abstract
1421192 Aminomethane diphosphonic acid BENCKISER-KNAPSACK GmbH 25 Jan 1973 [25 Jan 1972] 3878/73 Heading C2P Aminomethane diphosphonic acid is prepared by reacting HCN with a mixture of PCl 3 and H 3 PO 3 in the presence of a catalyst comprising a halide of a polyvalent metal or metalloid, without heating, and subsequently hydrolysing the resulting product. The acid obtained may be converted to a salt by reaction with an alkali or alkaline earth metal hydroxide or alternatively an alkali metal salt may be obtained directly by replacing HCN by an alkali metal cyanide. The hydrolysis may be effected with water or hydrochloric acid and the catalyst may comprise AlCl 3 , BBr 3 , BF 3 , SbCl 5 or ZnCl 2 . The PCl 3 and H 3 PO 3 are preferably used in a mole ratio of from 1 : 2 to 5 : 1.
