Abstract

1,248,592. Octatriene-1,3,7. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 4 Sept., 1969 [6 Nov., 1968], No. 52546/68. Heading C5E. [Also in Division C2] Octatriene-1,3,7 is obtained as by-product in the preparation of 1-alkoxyoctadienes -2,7 by reacting butadiene with a considerable excess of primary or secondary alcohol in the presence of a catalyst prepared from a Pd (II) salt, a base in quantity at least equivalent to the salt, and a tertiary phosphine or phosphite in a molar ratio to Pd in the range 3:1 to 1:1.
