Abstract

1421155 Yeast BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 3 April 1973 [12 April 1972] 16825/72 Heading C6F Straight chain hydrocarbons are converted to protein by cultivating Candida tropicalis CBS No. 6373 in a broth comprising an aqueous nutrient medium, a hydrocarbon mixture containing straight chain hydrocarbons of at least 10 carbon atoms per molecule and a gas containing free oxygen. The broth may be recovered and from it a hydrocarbon fraction which is free of straight chain hydrocarbons may be separated. The process may be continuous and non-aseptic and may be operated in two stages, broth from a first stage being diluted and passed to a second stage. The hydrocarbon source may be gas oil.
