Abstract

1420922 Earth cutting machine INDUSTRY SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 19 Jan 1973 [19 Oct 1971] 48605/71 Heading E1F An earth cutting machine has a main body 1 supporting a cutting assembly including a blade 12, a motor 2 which supplies power to driving means to move the machine, and means connected between two parts of the earth cutting machine or to the drive means and responsive to the magnitude of a load opposing cutting action to control the power supplied by the motor and regulate the speed at which the machine is driven forward and so limit the load. The main body 1 may be mounted on a chassis 6 by means of springs 7, 8, with a link 18 connected to the main body governing the angular position of the swash plate of a hydraulic pump unit 15 to regulate the drive to hydraulic motor 29 driving wheels 9 and 10. Alternatively, Fig. 2 (not shown), there may be a strain gauge (21) between the cutting assembly and the main body whose output controls the drive. The blade 12 is vibrated by devices 13a, 13b and the signal from the strain gauge is averaged accordingly. Or the load responsive means may be a transducer 30 responsive to the pressure in pipe 32 supplying the motor 29. Earth cut by the blade is removed by conveyors 4, 5.
