Abstract

1420834 Invalid chairs H E DELANY 14 May 1973 [18 May 1972] 22839/73 Heading B7B [Also in Division A4] An arrangement for facilitating the transfer of an invalid from a wheel chair to a car utilizes a door of the car to support the seat part of the chair during the transfer. A seat frame 1, Fig. 1, has a seat 5 fastened to an undercarriage 7 provided with nylon blocks 9 which engage T-shaped rails 11. The rails 11 are adjustably secured on frames 17 forming part of a detachable wheeled carriage 3. In use, the passenger door is opened and leg supports 35 on the seat frame are extended and support rollers 37, Fig. 4, are engaged in an elongated "C" channel 61 extending the whole length of the door. The wheeled carriage 3 moves under the car, while transfer rollers 39 roll over a steel plate 65 fitted in the car. The undercarriage and seat are secured in the car by a nut 71 on a pin 70 which is located in a recess in a flange 73.
