Abstract

1301413 Retaining occupants in chairs J T POSEY 4 May 1971 [18 May 1970] 12847/71 Heading A4J [Also in Division B7] Apparatus for restraining a patient sitting in a chair comprises, an elongated rigid bar 16, carrying intermediate its length, a resilient layer 18 e.g. of adhesively applied foam plastics and having a length greater than the distance between the sides of the chair, and support means to be mounted on the chair sides, for releasably securing the ends of the bar with the resilient layer against the patient. The support means on each chair side comprises a plate 20 having at least one opening 22 to receive an end of the bar and preferably a plurality of such openings in each plate provide means for adjusting the bar to patients of different size. Each plate 20 is fastened to a side of the chair by means of clips 28 and an upper lip 24 of each plate which fits between a corresponding armrest 32 and support 34 and screwed thereto. Stop means 43 may be provided at the ends of the bar 16 to limit lateral movement of the restraining device.
