Abstract

1399285 Adjustable seats ORTOPEDIA GmbH 21 June 1972 28994/72 Heading A4J [Also in Division B7] In a seat assembly, such as for attachment to an invalid carriage, comprising a back portion 1 with vertically and transversely adjustable side supports 8, a rear support member 9, Fig. 7, is mounted to provide at least one curved deformation of variable extent out of the general plane of the back portion, and the support member is also vertically adjustable relative to the back portion 1. In a preferred embodiment the back rest 1 and foot support 4 are articulated to the seat 2 for pivotal adjustment. Padding, such as leather coated foam is applied to the back rest 1, Fig. 4, which has oblong holes 7 for adjustably securing padded side supports 8. Rounded securing studs 13 have a rectangular region 15 to prevent rotation in an oblong hole 12 of the support 8 when retaining nuts 23 are tightened. The back rest 1 has two holes 29, Fig. 7, of T shape cross-section each having a rectangular nut 31 for receiving a threaded bolt 33 which by rotation causes a pulling or pushing motion to the padding 6 via a reaction block 37 and disc 38 thus providing an adjustable back support. The foot support 4, Fig. 8, comprises a rest 40 having guide rails 43 in which engage guide-members 44, 45 of a sliding extension member 41 one of the guide-members having a screw knob 44a which may be tightened for locking the extension member 41. The foot support 4 is preferably provided with foam padding.
