Abstract

1292413 Adjustable chairs H GRANLUND 25 May 1971 [27 May 1970] 16943/71 Heading A4J [Also in Division G1] For ascertaining the required shape for a chair which is to be tailored for the use of a disabled person, a "gauge chair" is provided, with the seat and back variable in shape and securable in any shape after being fitted to the body of the user. In the form shown, such a chair comprises a pair of side frame members 1, 2 provided with rows of evenly-spaced holes and projections for the reception of pins on the ends of template elements 5, 6 in the form of rollers, tubes, or bars, these pins being placed eccentrically on the elements and being individually adjustably secured to the frame so as to preserve the positions of the elements after fitting to the body of the user; the ends of the templates may be provided with dials so that the angular position of each can be read off and recorded. Adaptor pads or elements may be fitted to the template elements, engaging apertures disposed along and around the elements, to provide variation of shape along the length of the template elements. To allow for different fitting of the two sides of the chair, template elements of half length may be used, supported at one end in a central underframe, Fig.2 (not shown).
