Abstract
1420708 Hair cutting devices A N SPANEL 7 Jan 1974 [5 Jan 1973] 00635/74 Heading B4B A hair cutting device 10 comprises a doubleedged blade 22 mounted on a carriage 16 which is movable on a support frame 12, 66 by means of a manually rotatable driving element 38 via a movement-increasing means 38, 42 such that the cutting edges of the blade may be adjusted to selected positions between oppositely disposed rows of bights of comb tines 65 forming a cage member 14. The carriage is slidable in guideways 18, 56, Fig. 1, formed in the handle. The movement-increasing means comprises a lever 42 connected to the driving element which is in the form of a crank-arm 38 rotatable by a knob 34; the knob is locked in selected positions by means of a spring detent 58, Fig. 2, engaging in teeth 60 in the knob. The blade 22 is held on the carriage 16 by a clamping plate provided with keyhole slots 28 engageable with posts 26 on the carriage. The comb tines 65 are each secured at 68 to the handle portion 66, the ends 70 of each row of tines being held by a clamping element 72; the tines are bent so that the hair is cut with a tapered effect. In a modification. Fig. 15 (not shown) the lever 42 is replaced by a lever (148) having an arcuate rack (149) which is engaged by a pinion (150) rotatable by the knob 34. In a further modification, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown), the levers are dispensed with and the carriage is moved via a rack (108) thereon engaging gears (102, 104) which are rotated by a driving gear (100) secured to the knob. The tines may be bent into various shapes, e.g. zigzag, Figs. 17 to 22 (not shown) in order to vary the movement of hair between the tines.
