Abstract

1420607 Turbines W E WOOLLENWEBER 6 Dec 1972 56221/72 Heading F1T A housing 10 for a centripetal turbine has at least two inlet passages 26, 28, passage 28 surrounding at least 160 degrees of passage 26, viewed in a cross-section at the termination 30 of the latter and normal thereto, termination 30 being at or upstream of the start of the volute portion 18 of the housing. Three inlet passages may be provided Figs. 16 to 19 and 20 to 25. (not shown). Each passage may be of constant, reducing or convergent-divergent cross-section towards volute 18. The turbine may drive an engine supercharger (54) Fig. 26 (not shown), respective branches (46, 48) of the engine exhaust manifold feeding driving gases to the turbine inlet passage. The housing may include two volutes each with its own inlet passages.
