Abstract

1404009 Turbo-charged I C engines WALLACE-MURRAY CORP 16 Aug 1972 [31 Aug 1971] 38153/72 Heading F1B To reduce the amount of pollutants in the exhaust gases of a normally aspirated engine provided with a carburetter having a predetermined Venturi throat area, a carburetter having a smaller throat area and an exhaust-driven turbo-charger are provided. The combination of the smaller throat area carburetter and the turbo-charger provide an engine power output at each speed in the normal operating range of the engine at least as high as the power output of the normally aspirated engine. A thermal reactor may be provided between the engine exhaust ports and the inlet to the turbine of the turbo-charger. The carburetter used with the turbo-charger may have two barrels with a total throat area of 1.89 sq. in.
