Abstract

1420587 Bolts F HESTERBERG & SOHNE 9 July 1974 [13 Dec 1973] 30432/74 Heading E2A A fastening device for a hinged side panel or tailboard of a vehicle comprises a fitting 3 having a channel for a bolt 4, a bolt operating 'handle which in use is manually pulled away from the panel or tailboard the sliding bolt being pivotably connected by a pivot pin 6 to a forward arm 5 of a toggle device, the pin guiding the bolt between side walls of the channel of the fitting 3 and limiting its movement, a rear end of a rear toggle arm 8 being pivotably connected to a rear end of the trough fitting 3, the arm 8 forming the operating handle. End portions of the pivot pin 6 extend into a slot 7 in each side wall of the fitting 3 to limit the movement of the bolt. A covered recess 11 in the bolt houses a helical spring 12 compressed between a projection 13 on a base of the fitting and a rear end of the recess to retain the bolt projected or withdrawn. A spring 15 projecting from the toggle arm 5 snap engages a projection 16 on the rear end of the bolt additionally to retain it projected. The forward end of the channel may have the form of a T shaped slot when loads on the bolt are high. Pressure on the toggle arms above a central pivot pin 9 projects the bolt. The fitting 3 may be secured to an upper corner of a bottom hinged side panel or to a tailboard of a vehicle.
