Abstract

1419933 Methylcobalamine L'OPOCHIMIE 1 Aug 1974 [8 Aug 1973] 34008/74 Addition to 1355899 Heading C2V Methylcobalamine is prepared by the simultaneous reduction and methylation of cyanocobalamine in an aqueous methanolic solution containing at least 40 grams of cyanocobalamine per litre, through the action of mono-methyl oxalate and a metal powder. A cobalt salt may be added to the reaction mixture. In examples cyanocobalamine dissolved in aqueous methanol is converted to methylcobalamine by reaction with mono-methyl oxalate and zinc powder, cobalt chloride also being added to the reaction mixture.
